The Return of Cycling Chic

You may recall a post I did in 2009 entitled "Cycling Chic". Well its back baby! Here is more great ways to cycle and be fashionable while doing it (because wearing spandex tights is a fashion crime unless you do ballet).

The thing about cycling fashion is you want something which is comfortable, warm and snug, and preferably layers so if you are too hot you can take a bit off.

Shown here is 15 images I've collected which I feel exemplifies what you can do with cycling chic. Let your imagination pull you towards the fashion statement you feel best describes YOU.

4 Fun and Easy Summer Hair Styles

#1. The Messy Bun:

1. Gather your hair in a semi-loose ponytail in the place you would like the bun on your head.

2. With one hand gripping the base of the ponytail firmly, use the other hand to twist the ponytail until it starts to wrap around itself.

3. Continue to twist slightly as you wrap the ponytail into a bun.

4. Once wrapped completely, you can take a hair tie and wrap around the base of the bun making sure the tip of the ponytail is secure. You can also secure the bun by sticking bobby pins in and around the base of the bun.

#2. Bohemian French Twist:

1. Loosely gather your hair in a ponytail at the nape of your neck.

2. Very loosely twist your hair out (away from your head), then up.

3. Then loosely tuck your hair into itself and secure with a bobby pin.

#3. Braids:

1. Separate your hair into two sections, either down the center or where you part your hair.

2. Loosely french braid one of the sections of hair along the side of your head, and continuing into a normal braid. Do the same with the other section.

3. Once both sides are braided, wrap each braid around the back of your head, tucking them into the other braid and securing them in place with a bobby pin or two.

#4. A Twisty Ponytail:

1. Gather your hair very loosely in a low ponytail, away from your head a bit and secure with a hair tie.

2. Remember the "topsytail"? Well this part is sort of like that....only without the "topsy". Stick your finger in your hair, just above the hair
tie, parting the hair in two sections. Thread the tip of the ponytail through the part you've created, creating a twist just above the ponytail.

3. Now be creative!! With the ponytail, you can secure a bun just under the twist. Create a unique knot, or three. Make a braid to wrap in a knot.

Here is some awesome photos of a French side braid plus a video of how to do it yourself. Awesome!

Carpet Fashion? Not bad!

FASHION - Home decor never looked so haute.

Home décor company Korhani has turned its decorative carpets into haute couture at Toronto's Fashion Week Monday this week. The manufacturer based in Toronto and creative director Kirsten Korhani repurposed its rugs for the runway, showing off Mongolian rug inspired capes, studded pants and regal looking gowns all using a rug as a central part of the design.

This is actually the third time the company has pulled this publicity stunt, but it is still eye-catching.

“We’re trying to evolve, make it better, make it more interesting,” says Kirsten Korhani. “We have to step it up every season.” Korhani says the new collection has a wider selection of garments with “more diversification” in style and construction.

In the past Korhani’s off-beat shows have raised the company’s profile, so it just proves fashion can also be good publicity. And since their designs keep improving and getting attention it proves people don't get bored of it either.

The shows have increased Korhani’s sales and revenue “by big numbers,” owner Moji Korhani said after the show this past Monday night and they are now planning to expand into the USA and Europe.

Who is Patrizia?

FASHION - I just really like the smart way they did this advertising campaign... keeps the focus on the clothes, not the model's face.

Suspenders for Men and Women!

FASHION - On Saturday night I went out to a pub and I saw two separate guys wearing suspenders.

Since then I've been noticing it more. I saw suspenders yesterday and today at the bank I saw a woman wearing suspenders.

What the heck? I want suspenders too now!

They certainly provide a nice alternative when you can't decide on a belt to wear.

What struck me is how classy and sophisticated they looked. And honest and hardworking at the same time. Its a nice look, a bit retro, but very kewl.

Its official. Suspenders are back in fashion!

Cowboy Hats back in fashion

FASHION - My friends and I think cowboy hats are coming back into style. We think its because of the film True Grit but maybe its just a cyclical thing. (We also think the film 'Country Strong' might have something to do with it, even though we HATE that film.)

Shown here is a Stetson black cowboy hat. Stetson was the inventor of the cowboy hat and is still considered the best company when it comes to making cowboy hats. (Like Levis inventing jeans.)

The thing about cowboy hats is that they can be quite stylish, while simultaneously looking adventurous.

To show you what I mean about how cowboy hats being stylish I've collected some images of various celebrities, athletes, supermodels and fashion models wearing cowboy hats.

I think the mere fact Emma Watson is wearing a cowboy hat signifies it has gained a wider acceptance as a fashion item, similar to how fedoras, swisses and hamburgs are so popular right now. See Mens Hats.
